Drive Through The Old Neighborhood

from THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD by Stephen Bard

/

lyrics

The car was all ready as we put on our jackets for the drive
My dad had been steady but his hopes of seeing someone
Were still alive
I smiled as stories of his childhood began to arrive
As he told them I felt the feeling I felt when I was young

"There's Artie's house," he said to me with a smile.
"He's passed away now and I hadn't seen him in awhile.
We played in a band growing up in his mother's front den.
He played one hell of a smoking guitar even then."

We drove by his high school
I thought of old friends from the past
It's a funny and sad waste of time
Wondering why the time goes so fast

"I'm glad you're here," he said with a tear down his face
"Me too," I said, "It's great to finally see this place.
A memory is one of the few things that's truly your own."
"This one's a great one for me," he said as we went home
"This one's a great one for me," he said as we went home
"This one's a great one for me," he said as we went home
