Hoping he might join us for some late night casual viewing

They’d recognize the deal and drop whatever they were doing
But there’s no answer from Joe

Once a week like clockwork I would call when I was driving
One in four he’d pick up and indulge my conversation
He’d start humming to himself and I swear even that was funny
Guess that’s why whenever I would call him
There would usually be no answer from Joe

Always reached out even though

So as usual I’m calling once a week that January
I know he’s been out of sorts and feeling kinda lonely
What really brought him down was he was happiest in winter
For some reason that year it just never got that snowy
I knew something was off that day but I just let it be
Figuring I’d get him on the phone eventually
It had always been that way
There was something different though
That fourth time in a row that I decided I would call
And there was no answer from Joe

The real kick in the ass is both the Mets and Yanks are winning
I admit getting through this life ok can be a task
Still got all these questions now but one less friend to ask
Looking round this crazy world
One thing that I know
The next ten thousand times or so I reach out in the silence
There’ll be no answer from Joe
